LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas highway officials have opened up all lanes of Interstate 30 after flash flooding.
A swift current surrounds Carlton Billingsley's business, Floors and More in Benton.
"At this point we are trying to salvage any kind of tools and office equipment we can but of course, interior furnishings of any kind samples, rugs, will have to be replaced," says Carlton Billingsley.
He says Monday's flash flood rushed in two feet of water. He blames not only Mother Nature, but new construction.
"On the other side of Hurricane Creek where it's been built up, it is causing us to get the water they used to get on that side," says Billingsley.
Motorists on Interstate 30 like Kevin Coleman also felt the storm's wrath.
"The state trooper turned me around and I tried to get on Highway 5 and get on there and it's closed, too," says Kevin Coleman.
Highway officials closed down Interstate 30 and Highway 5 Monday. Highway spokesperson Glenn Bolick says he knew the water would eventually recede Monday, but couldn't give motorists a timeline.
"It's frustrating for us at the Highway Department to answer the phone and not be able to give somebody a good answer, yes you're stuck in traffic right now , but in the next 15 minutes the water might recede," says Bolick.
By 1 p.m., the rain let up, the water receded, and thousands of motorists could finally get on their way.
There are several power outages being reported across central Arkansas. Entergy Arkansas has a map where you can find and report outages.
